Canoes and kayaks for a cause

We give thanks for generous people who support Mennonite camps, including the 36 paddlers who took two days to journey down the Fraser River from Hope to Fort Langley, B.C., in spite of windy, cold and wet weather. We also give thanks for the ground crew who fed the group at the overnight stop near Chilliwack and on Sunday at a lunchtime stop near Mission. We give thanks for the generosity of those who sponsored the paddlers. Since 1999 the annual Camp Squeah paddle-a-thon has raised a total of $840,000 to support the summer camp program.

An idea worth sharing

We pray for short-term mission workers of Mennonite Church Canada, including people like Karl and Marla Langelotz, who recently spent a few months serving at Friedenshaus (peace house) in Ludwigshafen, Germany. Recently they gave a TEDx talk at the Zurich International School in Switzerland, entitled “A modest proposal for world peace,” where they described some of their work with refugees. They believe that peace is rooted in building relationships and helping people get to know one another. Friedenshaus specifically helps refugees to learn German, to adjust to life in a new country and form relationships in the local community.
